Tout le monde connaît bien évidemment Tahiti et par abus de langage, on a tendance à croire que Tahiti et la Polynésie Française représentent la même chose alors qu'en fait Tahiti n'est qu'une île parmi d'autres dans la Polynésie Française (la plus grande, certes).
Avant de venir sur place, j'avais beau avoir entendu quelques uns de leurs noms ici et là mais il faut bien avouer que j'avais du mal à placer les différentes îles et archipels que comporte la Polynésie Française. Alors voilà une petite explication et un instant de culture géographique...
Comme vous pouvez le voir sur la carte, la Polynésie Française s'étend sur une surface aussi grande que l'Europe et est composée de 5 archipels :
- l'archipel de la Société (avec les îles du vent et les îles sous le vent)
- l'archipel des Tuamotu (et ses nombreux atolls)
- l'archipel des Marquises
- l'archipel des Australes
- l'archipel des Gambiers
Les trois derniers archipels cités étant très éloignés de Tahiti, les principaux touristes se baladent dans les deux premiers cités qui représentent déjà un bon paquet d'îles.
Après mes visites à Tahiti et Moorea dans les îles du vent dans l'archipel de la Société, mes prochaines destinations pour découvrir la Polynésie Française étaient :
